Why the Advertised Rate Is Not the Total
A room that looks like a bargain can cost much more by the time the fee and tax are added. Four things to understand before you compare prices.
A flat fee per room per night
The fee is charged per room, not per guest, and for every night of your stay. Two travellers or four, the fee is the same.
Charged in US dollars, plus tax
Room tax in Clark County is about 13% and usually applies to the fee too. Convert from US to Canadian dollars to see your real cost.
Often not part of the package price
A package may show a low total and leave the resort fee to be paid at the hotel. Check the inclusions on the booking page before comparing.
US rules now require clearer totals
A US Federal Trade Commission rule that took effect on 12 May 2025 requires hotels advertising in the United States to show the total price including mandatory fees, other than government charges. Resort fees are still allowed, only the display changed.

How to Find and Compare the Fee
Five quick checks before you pay.
Look for "mandatory fees" on the booking page
The fee is usually listed near the price breakdown or in the fine print. Check whether it is included in the total or due at the hotel.
Multiply by nights
Fee per night times nights, then add tax. On a 5 night stay, a US$50 fee is US$250 before tax, roughly C$340 at typical exchange rates.
Read what the fee covers
Common inclusions are in-room Wi-Fi, pool and fitness access, and some local calls or shuttle. Inclusions vary by hotel, so read the list.
Compare at the hotel level
Two hotels with the same room rate can differ by US$100 or more over a stay once fees are added. Compare totals, not nightly rates.
Ask about loyalty waivers
Some hotel loyalty programs waive the fee on points stays or for top-tier members. It does not apply to every booking, so ask before you book.
COMPARE THE REAL TOTAL
Compare Las Vegas Hotels Side by Side
See the same hotel and dates across Canadian travel sites, then check the fee on the booking page before you choose.
How to Avoid Surprises
Simple habits that keep the total predictable.
Compare totals, not nightly rates
A lower room rate at a hotel with a higher fee can cost more. Add the fee and tax for each hotel you are considering, such as Bellagio, Caesars Palace or The Venetian.
Treat the fee as part of the price
Whatever the booking page shows, build the fee and tax into your budget. It is not optional at most large Strip hotels.
Check what is included in the package
Our package guide shows how to compare a bundled total against flight and hotel booked separately.
Take a screenshot of the price breakdown
Keep the page that shows the fee and the total. If the amount at check-in differs, you have the original for reference.
Choose longer stays carefully
The fee is charged every night, so it adds up. If you have flexibility, a hotel with a lower fee can matter more on a long stay than a short one.
Compare locations too
Resort fees vary by hotel and area. Our where to stay guide explains how location changes the bill.
Las Vegas Resort Fee FAQ
What is a Las Vegas resort fee?
A flat nightly charge added by most large hotels, per room and not per guest, usually quoted in US dollars. It is on top of the room rate and tax. It typically covers amenities such as Wi-Fi and pool or fitness access, but inclusions vary by hotel.
How much are Las Vegas resort fees?
At many Strip hotels they have recently been in the range of about US$40 to US$60 per room per night, before tax. Amounts change often, so confirm the figure on the hotel page or the booking page for your dates.
Can I avoid the resort fee?
Usually not at the big Strip hotels, because it is mandatory. Some loyalty programs waive it on certain bookings. Check the fee on the booking page for each hotel you are comparing.
Is the resort fee included in a Las Vegas package?
Sometimes, sometimes not. It is often paid at the hotel. Read the inclusions on the booking page, and add the fee, in CAD, to the package total before comparing. Our package guide walks through the comparison.
Does room tax apply to the resort fee?
Usually yes. Room tax in Clark County is about 13%, and it generally applies to the fee as well, so a US$50 fee costs about US$56 to US$57 once tax is added.
What did the 2025 US "junk fee" rule change?
A US Federal Trade Commission rule that took effect on 12 May 2025 requires short-term lodging advertised in the United States to show the total price including mandatory fees, except government charges. It did not ban resort fees. How a Canadian travel site shows a package can differ, so check the total and the inclusions on the booking page.
Do other cities charge resort fees too?
Yes. Resort and destination fees appear in other US cities and at some resorts elsewhere, so check the total wherever you book. For Las Vegas, compare hotels on the destination page.
